Program Description
Join our Roblox Social Group for a fun way to practice neuro-affirming pro-social behaviours supported by an experienced Speech Pathologist.
Why gaming? Studies show that playing interactive games, like Roblox, is a great way for kids to practice important social skills. Here’s how:
- Teamwork: Players need to collaborate, share goals, and help each other in team-based games, which promotes cooperative thinking and joint problem-solving
- Turn-taking: Many Roblox games involve waiting for turns and respecting others' playtime, helping children learn patience and fairness
- Giving Instructions: Navigating games often requires giving and receiving clear directions, enhancing communication skills and boosting confidence
- Using a Kind Voice: Through group interaction, kids can practice using polite and encouraging language, fostering empathy and kindness
Skills Gained:
- Enhanced communication abilities
- Better emotional regulation
- Improved problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Strengthened social connections with peers
Safety Considerations:
- Roblox is an online worldwide platform, which can leave children at risk of encountering strangers or inappropriate behaviour in chat or while playing
- The Speech Pathologist is an experienced Roblox player with an in-depth understanding of the platform and potential safety concerns
- Online safety is discussed at the beginning of each session using the Australian Governments e-Safety Commission curriculum
- Specific accounts have been created for our players to use in session. These accounts are linked to the Speech Pathologist’s account as under 13 child accounts
- Have the in-game chat function switched off
- Require permission to accept friend requests
Wherever possible, private servers are used. This will ensure our skills can be practiced with only group players and without the distraction of others.
